SHILOH, TN – Get ready for an unforgettable adventure at Shiloh National Military Park with a ranger-led hike that takes you back to the opening shots of the bloody battle. Join us on Saturday, August 24th for the “Fraley Field: the Bloody Battle Begins” hike.
Led by Park Ranger Timothy Arnold, this hike will allow you to retrace the steps of Colonel Everett Peabody’s patrol and experience the intense encounters with Confederate skirmishers from the 3rd Mississippi Battalion. Learn about the strategic routes taken by both the Union patrol and Confederate skirmishers as they clashed in Fraley Field for the first shots of the battle.
As you hike, follow the path of Prentiss’s Division and witness their fighting withdrawal back to Peabody’s camps. This historical journey will provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by these brave soldiers and the complexities of the battlefield.
The hike will begin promptly at 10:00 am and last until 12:00 pm. Please meet at the park visitor center, where we will drive to the starting point of the hike. The distance covered will be approximately 3.5 miles, with moderate terrain.
