Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The primary objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net using any part of the body except the arms and hands (goalkeepers are exempt from this rule). The game is played on a rectangular field, commonly referred to as a pitch, which is typically equipped with goalposts at each end.

Football is known worldwide as soccer in some countries, particularly in the United States and Canada, where “football” refers to American football. The sport is governed internationally by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), which organizes the World Cup, the most prestigious tournament in the sport.

Football has various forms, including association football (the most widely played version), as well as variations like futsal and beach soccer. The game emphasizes skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork, and it is celebrated for its global appeal, rich history, and cultural significance across different nations. Football fosters community, promotes physical fitness, and serves as a major source of entertainment.
